Five Card Story: How the silence

We never hear anything from the house. The gate is closed. The gate just opens once a day. A car will be leaving or entering the gate. After that the gate will be closed with a bang and silence will be there again.
If you climb over the gate, that is easy, and you walk the silent road to the house, you will see the window. It is quit a walk. We never say a word when we walk that road.
Sometimes you could see a glimpse of a shadow behind the curtains. Or do we just see things?
The place seems empty, except for the old car just standing there.
One day something changed. The gate was open and a young woman on a bike entered. She did not close the gate. We were surprised. The gate was not closed again, but silence remained.
After that day one of us entered the lane and went to see the house. The window is open, she said. I did see a book.
We did not answer that and kept silent.
Until the dog came. The dog barked and ran around.
Some days after that we heard a shot. After that we never heard the dog again. Silence.
