The smell of tannins in the air was too thick with sweetness to resist. My inner child left the safe confines of my home and began to wander, crunching leaves joyfully with each step, releasing more of the sweet intoxication. I looked back once. The shadows elongating as the earth tilted a little more each evening, threatening to fall into the eternal cold of winter. Before me was an enchanted fairy land. A primal call to the deepest part of my being was chanted in the rustling of the leaves. "Come away while you can," whispered softly on the chilly breeze. Conversations from a nearby family gathering began to fade with each as I entered this mind numbing realm. Motes in my eyes, senses intoxicated with the adventure about to begin. I turned my head and closed my eyes one last time, leaving the safety of the familiar path, I turned onto the crosswalk of a new tomorrow.
