about this story

As I walk down the street that is all too familiar to me, I stop at the pay phone where you gave me a quarter to call my mom when my car broke down. It was the first time we had met but in my heart, I knew it wouldn't be the last. I walked down the block to the cafe on the corner where we had our first date. You would not let me pay. I reminisced about your birthday we had with the candles and the beautiful dinner I promised I would make. Although it did not taste as good as it looked, you ate it anyways with a smile upon your face. I turned the corner to see a "No Smoking" sign. I wish you would have listened to the signs as well as my voice telling you to stop. Maybe if you had listened, you would still be here with me. I brushed a rolling tear off of my cheek and continued my walk home, alone.
