about this story

The children were looking for their grandfather on the trail they had all walked earlier that day before they lost him. There was a couple of buildings a few miles away surrounding some of the trails but they were mostly all abandoned or run down and it was unlikely anybody would be staying in them. The oldest of the kids, Josh, was trying to organize a plan to find him. "Lend me your ears," he said to the children while explaining his plan to find their grandfather. At this time it was nearly pitch black out and they were close to giving up. This was their last ditch effort for the night. They decided they might find him walking on the road rather than in the trails because he would be more visible. They walked the road for nearly two miles and they were in the middle of nowhere, almost lost themselves, when they saw what they believed to be their grandfathers red hat he was wearing that day and a small fire. They continued approaching cautiously until they were sure it was him. They were all relieved, especially Josh, who was very proud of himself. They asked their grandfather why he wandered off from them earlier that day and he didn't remember. All he said was he was with us and then all of a sudden he wasn't. When they got home their parents told the children that their grandfather had Alzheimers disease and that they are not to go one walks with him again. "Dang he's quite the silver fox," Josh said, breaking the silence.
