about this story

The sky was slowly showing the creeping daylight as the minutes ticked away. The old man slowly walked down Main Street past the statute of Gen. Robert E. Lee. He remembered the stories his grandpa used to tell him about the War of Northern Aggression. His grandpa's father had fought for the Southern Contingent while his grandpa's uncle had fought for the Northerners.

Those memories were precious to him. It was his link to the past. His heritage was what made him the man he became as an adult. But now, his twilight time had arrived. He was the only one left. Their walks to the county fair where he would use the pennies he had earned as a delivery boy to woo the pretty girl by buying tickets to ride the ponies and show her he was a real cowboy had fled away with the dusk of the day. All that was left was to walk into the sun and see where the new day would dawn and who would greet him in his new world.
