about this story

A single thought that constantly reoccurs is the thought of being alone. Carl, a 17 year old teenager with depression, social anxiety and anorexia always thinks about why he's alone. He's in high school, so he sees the school walls, and his peers all the time, but no walls are bigger than his emotional walls. He often reads books because he has no friends, and wants to escape from his harsh reality of being alone. He spends most of his time in the local library trying to find a good book that will make him feel not alone. When he reads he is taken to a place of happiness where he can make up his friends, and not feel isolated. However, when he goes home his single is often also depressed because she feels like her son is a worthless piece of fruit cake. His father left when he was very young, and does not try to contact him in any way. His mother blames him for it. At home he has a good novel that takes him to a happier place. In this place he has a lot of friends, caring parents, and no walls, so he can express how he feels freely.
