about this story

During the Foundations period, people switched from hunting and gathering to farming. People did this because agriculture allowed them to stay in one area and be able to grow their own food. This was a major change during the Foundations period that continues in the Contemporary period. Also, World War 1 took place in the Contemporary period. In the Aftermath of this war, there was the Great Depression. One of the causes of the Great Depression was that farmers grew too much food for the soldiers in World War 1. The farmers couldn't sell all of their food, so they lost profit. Losing their profit meant that they couldn't pay back their debt which leads to loss of farms and unemployment.
