Growing up in the country, we had the freedom and the space to explore our imaginations. After a day spent playing by the pond, we'd race down our mile long driveway, hoping to be the first to smell Mom's cooking.
But, we could never quite keep up with our dog, Jazz. She loved to run. She loved exploring the landscapes. Oddly enough, she loved to fetch rocks!
You know that feeling you get when your dog shows you the goofy side of their personality? I didn't see that in Jazz after our move to the city. Constant constrictions on not only our walks, but our creative sides. I dreamed of discovering all the shapes, colors, sounds, and diversity of my country forest. The fungi on fallen branches, the beating of a bird's wings, the sunlight peaking through the tall trees.
The city was always telling me how to be, telling me how to see. Signs and manipulative images around every corner, on every building and in every eye. Narrowing choices and closing minds. Luckily, my mind had already chosen to be open. Opened wide enough to see from the perspective of a high mountaintop, looking down on a world of foggy minds.
How do you choose to see?
