about this story

The sun was setting on the horizon. She watched the colors move, from periwinkle blue to cotton candy pink to the now orange and purple sky above. Fall was just setting in, and she picked up the single leaf she saw on the bench. She dropped it on the ground and stepped on it, the *crunch* of the leaf leaving her a satisfying smile. Even though she's lived here her whole life, the small town still seemed unsettled at night, and everyone knew that's when the bad things happened. Nobody stuck around that long, but she had to this night. She pulled her crimson scarf closer to her face as the wind nipped at her skin. Walking up the stairs to the building she knew all too well, the stone lions at the front seemed to follow her every move, as if they were plotting. She shivered at the thought and continued up the long stairway up, at a slightly quicker pace than before.
The building was old, probably the oldest in the town and the Rennasaince -inspired architecture proved it. She got a chill thinking about all that had happened in the building but continued still. As she walked in, the warm air welcomed her. She walked in, anticipating what he could want. What he could do. He was powerful and could get away with anything. As she walked further she heard the hauntingly calm voice ring out through the nearly empty building, saying "Hello, Miss Brown. It's a pleasure seeing you again."
