在一個核戰後的世界，只剩下少數的人類生活在已經成為荒土的地球上。由於通訊系統及人造衛星的毀壞，所有的人類聚落已經失去了互相遠距溝通的能力。一位聚落之中的人離開了據點，向外尋找幾乎被所有人認為是傳說的另一個聚落。沿路上經過的舊時代的遺跡，不經讓他思考起戰爭及人類的本質和意義，也在自然的美景之中讚嘆，在荒蕪的廢墟中咒罵著這個美麗卻又殘酷的世界。在糧食短缺以及在外活動累積下來的汙染終於擊垮了他的身體。他逐漸模糊的雙眼看到了前方大樓中閃爍的燈光以及朝著他前去的腳步聲，但他早已無力起身，只能在一片黑暗之中祈禱這樣的努力，能夠讓這個世界更接近清澈的藍天。
