about this story

I left my home in the midwest on a journey through the desert. When I was a toddler, my parents lived on an army base. I don't remember it at all. After traveling by car for two days, I turned off the interstate to where the army base was. It's no longer an active base. I immediately noticed the beautiful desert flowers growing wild. The terrain had changed drastically. I left trees and green grass and now stared and mountains of sand. The houses weren't made of wood, but adobe. I went around the back of a deserted house to see a monument in the back yard. The family name must've been Dibrell. The was a fish pond in the yard that looked like it needed lots of attention. The fish appeared to be dead. As I reached into the water, a fish surfaced and splashed me. I reached in and removed it. Several more swam close to the top, so I removed them, too, and put them in a box. The sun was starting to set, so I headed away from the base and back towards home.
