The hike up Mount Fuji is just over 12,000 feet and me and my friends were ready to tackle it in the middle of July. Starting out with warm summer temperatures, wearing light pants, t-shirts and hiking boots Bettina, Mike and I started our three plus hour walk to the top. We could see the snow at the top, but we felt the sun and figured our light jackets would suffice at 12,000 feet. Along the way we met a cast of characters and peddlers selling ramen, tea, Coca-Cola and Joe, the photographer from Texas. We let Joe take our picture before continuing up the last ascent. At the top we were met with freezing rain and sleet. Because of the cold, we sprinted down the mountain in half the time and found a vendor who sold french fries back at basecamp.
