Sometimes the gates of opportunity don’t present as open for everyone. Access might even be restricted or denied based on reasons that are without merit or principle. If you find yourself in that situation, do not concede defeat. Instead realize that you must forge a new path, however long that road may be. Learn from the lessons of those who have fought the fight before you, and who may have even sacrificed far beyond what they ever received in return. Be aware of allies and obstacles wherever they may lie, remembering that the line between protector and oppressor is not always as clear as imagined. Self-reflect often and be sure your own words and deeds project the world you want to see. Don’t despair if they’re not appreciated in the moment, as one day people may look back with great admiration upon the vision you provided to others.
