about this story
My name is Rory Stephens. Here is my favorite building in the city (Philadelphia, PA) - I used to pass by it every single day on the way to school. Every month it features a different mural made by different artists. I think it brings so much joy and vibrance to those who get to see it every day. It definitely brought that to me and my best and lifelong friend Anastasia Kerts - she’s pictured here with me. She’s easily my favorite person in the whole world because she’s the craziest, funniest, and most genuine. When we were little, we used to play princess and we would pretend like we lived in a big, beautiful castle. We used to dream of living happily ever after with our prince charming. It was a vast difference from the reality - we lived down the hall from each other in the same apartment building. Both our families lived in efficiency apartments, working hard every month just to make ends meet. One day, my mom and dad sat down to talk with me and my two brothers. They told us that my dad had gotten a new opportunity for a job in Raleigh, North Carolina and we were moving in a month. I was heartbroken that I would have to leave my best friend. On top of that, I had only ever known Philadelphia. I was so nervous about moving and starting at a new school. A month came and went and my family was making our way highway to highway to our new home. It seemed like the drive was forever long and that we would never get there. It was a little rough at first adjusting to my new surroundings, but I ended up meeting another best friend here, Regina Tyler. She has been a lifelong friend of mine along with Anastasia. I guess it’s true what they say, when one door closes, another opens. I was meant to meet both of my people and the world made it happen.
