about this story

It all began on this bright Virginia roadway, humid wind in my hair, the smell of fresh cut grass rising up in the air (and my Eagles playlist blasting out of the speakers). I had an aggressive timeline, dwindling grant funds, and pressure to find the rarest moss in the world - Kungfu bryophyta.

The last stop on my quest for Kungfu bryophyta was a secluded monastery near the Shenandoah River. This community of monks was known for their glasswork and carpentry, creating beautiful windows and doors, rumored to pierce the souls of those before (and behind) them.

After baring my soul, I was granted permission to search the property for the elusive species of moss. And search I did - leaving no stone, bottle, or leaf unturned.

After several hours my quest was complete! The elusive Kungfu bryophyta - found at last hiding in a natural spring! The monks tell me that any time of year, I can find it here. There is so much to learn about Kungfu bryophyta I may never leave!
