about this story

We jumped in the car, all our things packed and snugly tied together. There was much we had to look forward to. A whole wide world ahead of us. I just hoped it was enough. We passed many sights as we drove, lavish homes and old sanctimonious architecture, anything we could focus our eyes on was good. I looked over at her, maybe she was seeing the landscapes around us as I was, full of hope and prosperity. Eventually, after many torturous hours cooped in the car, we stopped. The moon had risen and the black sky blanketed the world and let us know it was nighttime. The stars looked like scattered salt fragments across a pitch black drapery. Frogs croaked and splashed around in the nearby ponds of the small forest-like area we had come to. The air smelled like roses, but it could be that it was just the scent of her next to me. At last, I grabbed her hand. I was at peace now.
