about this story

Picture 1 introduction:
Going away to college can often provide young people with a newfound sense of freedom, being away from home for the first time.
Picture 2:
However, while all students are here to obviously get a higher education, many students get lost in the transition and often find themselves forgetting about their health, and developing unhealthy habits.
Picture 3:
The normalization of alcohol abuse on and around college campuses, as well as the stress of course loads are the biggest factors contributing to the negative impact transitioning to college can have on students because they impact both mental and physical health.
Counterargument:
Not all students face these issues. Some even develop healthier habits upon arriving on college campuses. For example, Rowan University offers free access to several gyms with a campus ID, several healthy menu options in both the student center and cafeteria, as well as mental health services
Conclusion:
Yet overall, the majority of college students still face some form of declining health as a result of the lifestyle transition which accompanies moving away to college. The phrase “freshman 15” has even been coined over the years as a result of the trend in declining health in college freshman. Because of this trend, it is important for college students to be mindful of their health habits, remembering to take care of themselves both physically and mentally.
