about this story

Kant was born in 1724 and Kant childhood was quite poor and religious. In many ways of his life was unremarkable and even dull but as a young man he apparently cut quite a dashing figure. Kant did not, however, become a religious person even though he is interested in religion as an object of inquiry. But then later in his life, Kant got his doctorate and also started teaching at the university as a private lecturer.

He was nonsalaried lecturer meaning that he was completely dependent on students paying him directly to attend his lectures so he had to work so hard. Kant became famous and recognized as the new kind of philosopher of the early modern period to earn his living as a professional teacher of the philosophy.
