Locke was one of the first philosophers to give serious attention to the question of personal identity. John Locke studied in Christ Church, University of Oxford. His studies opened a door to get exposed with the government and for revolutionary philosophies. He tried to convince the others with his revolutionary philosophies. But he was alone with his philosophies, everyone opposed with his opinions about the government. He made his personal identity philosophy because in Locke’s time, the topic of personal identity was important for religious reasons. Christian doctrine held that there was an afterlife in which virtuous people would be rewarded in heaven and sinful people would be punished in hell. This scheme provided motivation for individuals to behave morally.
