I went to work one day and had an unscheduled, unstructured day. I decided to practice piano and just kinda let the music take me away. I needed to select piano pieces and practice them for the school chapel services and this next weekend's alternative service. After I selected several books containing pieces that seemed appropriate, I started to play.
The first piece I played was called "Fall Colors". Though it was late in fall and leaf drop had already happened, I imagined the music describing the beautiful pops of color on the fall trees. Nature is the most inspiring subject to compose music too and I allowed myself to become fully immersed into the music and what it was describing.
I got interrupted however by the sound of road work outside. They had been doing intermittent street repairs. Even though they were necessary, they were annoying. The windows were closed but I could still hear the noises. My stomach rumbled. It was time to get a snack and a drink. Hopefully by the time I finished, they would halt the road work at least for the lunch hour.
I was in luck, as soon as I finished my replenishing myself, the road work ceased. I then took out my Christmas/winter songbook and began playing "The Quiet Center" as well as other Christmas carols. My mind drifted to beautiful snow-covered landscapes. Wouldn't it be wonderful to have snow for Christmas? If not for Christmas, than at least several snowfalls this winter?
I finally glanced outside at the red berries on the bushes lining my window. They were ready for winter and I was too. Suddenly the road work started up again and I had to stop playing piano. But it's okay. I could always work on other work and I would pick it up again once the road work ceaseed.
