about this story

Hume's subject, as stated in the title of the Treatise, is human nature. His project's subtitle defines it: "an attempt to incorporate the experimental method into moral concerns." As he explains at the start of the first Enquiry, “moral” means anything dealing with human nature, not simply ethics, as he defines “moral philosophy” as “the science of human nature.” The goal of Hume's work is to apply the scientific method to the study of human nature.
