about this story
My journey begins in the city - Richmond, specifically. I began my time at VCU in February 2021 and soon I knew that I wanted to add on to my life's education. I had already done the cap and gown thing a few times and knew my way around a graduation. However, I felt like I was expected to continue with my education to a doctorate. That expectation was, actually, moreso put on by me than anyone else around me. I was lost and needed direction. How would I get from point A to point B? I wasn't sure how I would pursue my next level of education until I spoke with a coworker who was currently in her first year of the EdD program at VCU. I began my time in the EdD program a year ago and I did not know what I was getting myself into. We were pushed to think high and, just when we were prompted to think in the clouds and have all of these grand ideas. But then, we were brought back to reality as we realized getting to those dreams in the sky would take effort and gusto. Nonetheless, my time with everyone else and my thoughts during the EdD program has kept me thinking about having that proverbial office in the tower so that I can continue to "look down from the balcony".
