Horrifying screams of a mother filled the fall air. Glass is littered across the asphalt on Highway 83. A single, small child lay motionless in the street. A grandmother waits in a nearby store, browsing the selection of crane figurines. "Daphne would love this in her kitchen," she thought. She glanced at her watch, noticing it was 2 o'clock. She was expecting Daphne and Rose nearly half an hour ago. An ambulance echoes nearby. Maria flicked her eyes to the door. She couldn't explain why, but she knew something was wrong. Maria darted out of the building, still clutching the red crane figurine without thinking about paying. It had been nearly a year since the accident. Rose's gravesite sat amongst the fall leaves, the red crane resting peacefully in front of the tombstone.
