about this story

For my 30th birthday, my friends and I embarked on an incredible journey to Costa Rica, and it turned out to be an absolute blast. One of the highlights of our trip was visiting the breathtaking Manuel Antonio National Park, a place of unparalleled beauty that has something to captivate everyone. The variety of species was nothing short of astonishing—vibrant and colorful, with some creatures so expertly camouflaged that they were invisible without binoculars. The park features a scenic trail that winds its way through the jungle and ends at a pristine beach, a welcome sight for any tired, sweaty trekker. After cooling off in the refreshing waters, my friends and I decided to embrace our playful sides by climbing some low-hanging trees and while searching for the perfect tree, we stumbled upon coconuts lying on the ground. With the park officer's permission, we eagerly cracked them open and discovered delicious, spongy coconut flesh that was as sweet as any coconut water you could buy at the store. It was a delightful treat that left us feeling refreshed.
As I reclined against a tree and drifted off to sleep, I was awakened by the sound of footsteps. Thankfully it was not the jaguar my mind thought it was but an anteater strolling down the boardwalk, making its way back into the forest. Inspired by our coconut find, we decided to head back to the AirBnB bringing some coconuts back to make a coconut curry dish. While discarding the coconut husks, the park officer suggested we bury them under leaves and shrubs so that birds could use them for nesting material. We left Manuel Antonio National Park in the late afternoon, our hearts full of joy and our minds filled with unforgettable memories of a perfect day in paradise.
