about this story

Driving along the long and windy roads of Dinwiddie, Virginia, the young girl is staring out the car window as the sunset is staring back at her. She and her family just left Nana's house, and they are approaching I-95 North back home. Even before they could reach the end of the windy, five-mile country road, the family took the most scenic detour.

With plenty of open grasslands, tall grass, fields of corn, and farms full of countless horses and cows, this one, deep purple flower caught the young girl's eye. She notices the lime green stem and seeds upon the flower compliment the purple so well. As she is an artist, the girl thinks to herself "Hmm.. it would be nice to draw this flower back home" as she realizes she left her sketchpad and drawing materials on her desk in her room.

With more and more turns on this windy road, even though the sun is setting and they would like to be in the comfort of their own home, they truly digest and take in the open and naturalistic scenery around them all. They realized that even in moments of chaos or when life gets a little too busy, there are always small windows of opportunities to stop and smell the flowers; to be in the moment. When they finally reached I-95 towards Richmond, they were grateful to share a calm and intentional family moment together.
