about this story
1. Saturday, Sunday, Forage, Backyard, Summer
2. Puff the Magic Dragon by Peter, Paul, and Mary
3. All the pictures had a sense of personal nostalgia, each one had a familiar picturesqueness to them as though they were plucked from my own childhood.
4.
These pictures feel like the progression of summer as a young child. Saturdays are spent out in the garden doing more harm then good. Screaming and laughing are the soundtrack as children run around with dirty clothes and fruit stained fingers.
Then some inevitable tragedy; the loss of a family member, grandparent, or great grandparent comes to sweep over normal life. Its too complex a topic for a kid, but the fleeting nature of childhood masks the sadness with a veil, allowing the melancholy to blend back into the carefreeness of summer.
More afternoons are spent foraging in backyard junk piles, and picking flowers making it easy to forget any sorrow. But everything must come to an end, and the harvest arrives to usher the conclusion of another season.
The lesson learned: nothing lasts forever.
