about this story
These pictures represent my journey to education. I grew up on a farm in rural New York in a family that loved Coca-Cola. I had planned to pursue a career in veterinary medicine; however, I was not accepted to vet school. Through a series of events and decisions, I moved to Virginia to teach high school. It was an adjustment moving from a small town to a "big" city like Northern Virginia. After 18 years in education as a teacher and administrator, I resigned my position as an associate superintendent and moved back to NY to operate a commercial fruit farm and greenhouse operation with my family. After 4 1/2 years, I missed being in education and moved back to Virginia, accepting an administrative role in Manassas City Schools. Growing up on a farm and owning a farm business taught me a lot; there are seasons of life, and one decision ripples into the future.
