Mitzi stared up at me, wondering what adventures today would hold. She was so excited when she realized that we were going on a fun run through our new town.
Our path took us past a fruit stand bursting with colorful berries and cute “Fruit 66” pins—a play on words, since the town is right off Route 66. As we jogged down the road, I was reminded of the life we left behind and the comfort of finally finding a home in this welcoming community. The road had not been easy or short, but Mitzi and I traveled it together and found our way here.
After the run, we rewarded ourselves by returning to the fruit stand and buying some delicious raspberries, savoring the tastes and sights of our new hometown. Mitzi and I were ending our day—and starting our new story.
