about this story

Growing up in the country, summertime meant early mornings spent fishing with my uncles and cousins. We’d sit quietly by the water, careful not to make too much noise in an effort to not scare the fish away. When our patience wore thin, because the fish weren’t biting fast enough, my cousins and I would go off to a nearby dock, racing up and down like planes taking off from our own private runway. Looking back, there was a peace and stillness in the country. It was a calm that feels so different from the constant movement and noise of the city. Today, as I stand in front of the mirror, the reflection looking back at me has changed with time, but the memories of summertime in the country remains fond.
