The first photo reminded me of the Umayyad Mosque in Damascus,Syria, which is the city where I began my teaching career. It felt like I was heading toward an important moment of reflection, until I realized the rest of the photos had absolutely nothing to do with that. So I pivoted. I chose nature shots because nature, unlike architecture, doesn’t try so hard to be symmetrical or permanent. The branches are confused, the flowers are overachieving, and the field has strong "senior photo shoot" energy. The final image brings us back to humanity in the form of a tree trying to upstage a duplex (or something like that). Together, these photos suggest a narrative about beauty, time, and probably architecture. ... Or maybe it's just five pictures I liked. Either way, the story practically writes itself, and here it is.
