about this story

It began on a quiet afternoon. A black-and-white cat lounged beside the path, watching the world drift by. Most people passed without noticing, but one curious traveler stopped and sat nearby.

As they rested together, a tiny cricket landed on the traveler's hand. The insect seemed ordinary at first, but there was something unusual about the way it stared back, as if it carried a message.

The traveler followed the cricket's persistent chirping until sunset. It led them to a peaceful river glowing with gold and violet light. The water reflected the sky so perfectly that it seemed like a doorway between worlds.

Across the river stood an old church. Its bells had been silent for years, yet as the traveler approached, a faint chime echoed through the evening air. The cricket leapt from the traveler's hand and disappeared among the stone walls.

The sound guided the traveler onward until they reached a great bridge shrouded in brilliant white mist. The far side could not be seen. Taking a deep breath, they stepped forward.

As they crossed, they realized the journey had never been about finding where the cricket was going. It had been about finding the courage to follow something small and unexpected into the unknown.

And somewhere behind them, the cat still rested beside the path, waiting for the next traveler who needed a beginning.
