It was Christmas time, but not Christmas as usual. We skipped the dirty snow and rock salt for beach sand and sunshine. We were best friends, attached at the hip since second grade, and now, one year past college, we were in love. Who could stand sticking around to tell our parents, answer all the questions they would have? Let them have Christmas as usual, with the dark skies and drooping trees. We would be somewhere else, somewhere far away, somewhere together.
