Five Card Story: Journey out and Back Again

As I pulled my cheek away from the cool sidewalk, my eyes arced upwards to follow the concrete lines of the old Union Trust Bank towards the morning sun that crept along it's pinnacle.. Behind my eyes, a dull ache burst into a heavy throb and the ragged skin of my chin stung as I stretched and moved my jaw. I could hear footsteps nearing and then moving away and watched as a curious pidgeon dawdled towards me. I closed my eyes to try and pull some memories of the night before. Nothing. When i opened my eyes, a pigeons beak startled me to my knees, which caused the throbbing in my head to balloon.
AS I squeezed my head in my hands I saw the image of a mountain in the distance. i recalled my labored breath as i rested against the rock wall and looked out into the valley that was meant to hold my future.
