Chrona sat alone at a bench in the park. Tiny flowers that looked like little souls ready to be eaten floated in the wind. There had been a lizard in the grasses, but Ragnarok had scared it away. Chrona was scared too right now. She was scared for Maka. It had been days since the scythe meister had left on an emergency mission given to her by Shinigami-sama, and Chrona had been waiting for her return ever since. "I'll be back," Maka had said, with that smile on her face, the one she reserved for comforting Chrona. "I won't be gone long," she had said...
Chrona stared at the design on the bench handle. It was circular, like the circle that Shadow always came from, and that Maka had rescued her from. She hoped Shadow wouldn't come today...
"Why do you think Maka isn't coming back? Do you think it's because she doesn't like you anymore? Or did she get hurt, killed even?"
The two faced demon. Her shadow was questioning her again.
'I don't know how to deal with this...'
It was the fifth day, and she didn't want to think about what that meant. HAD Maka actually been hurt? No, she couldn't have gotten hurt. Shinigami-sama had told her that they would be back soon enough...
How soon was soon enough? The lizard was back again, and this time even Ragnarok didn't try to scare it away, he was too tired from sitting out in the sun all day, waiting with Chrona for Maka.
Waiting for Maka...
"Maka..."
And then, she was there. Just as Chrona knew she had black blood, she knew it was Maka from the moment she saw her. Chrona stood up from the bench and, barely believing what she was seeing, went to the distant shadow that was her friend. Chrona's own shadow dissipated. Her sun had returned.
"Hey Chrona, did you miss me?"
