about this story

I was speeding down the road on a beautiful Saturday afternoon. The radio was blasting and the wind whipped through my hair. I was on a mission: retrieve something in the hidden temple on the other side of town. Out of the corner of my eye, I spotted a black van in my rearview mirror. Every turn I made, it made.

Stepping on the gas, I accelerated towards the bridge up ahead. I felt like I was in that famous scene from "Stand By Me." The van accelerated as well, gaining distance with every second. I had to be careful not to swerve off into the water.

Finally, the rock formation that enclosed the temple appeared. I pulled up, quickly opened the door, and dashed for the entrance. My footsteps echoed around the narrow hallways, but they were joined by several other footsteps. I was being chased!

I turned the corner and saw it. In a beam of light, perfectly preserved, was a pizza. Not just any pizza, mind you: the world's first pepperoni pizza, dating from thousands of years ago. It was still steaming hot.

I slowly approached the pizza when my pursuers burst in. "Stop!" they shouted. I mumbled under my breath, "never," and lunged for the pizza. But it was gone! As I collapsed beneath it, I looked up to see a cat scaling the walls with the pizza in its mouth.
