Five Card Story: A Country Morning

Waking up to the pale sunlight floating through my window, I open my eyes slowly, stretching my arms above my head. Then I snuggle back down, just for a moment, smoothing the striped counterpane over my lap and lying my head back letting the crisp air and cool light wash over me. Then I trudge out of bed, throwing a worn flannel shirt over my black yoga pants and long-sleeve white t-shirt. I turn the coffee on to brew as I lace up my black and brown muckalucks by the back door. Mug in hand, I reach down to give Sally a little nuzzle before opening the door and letting my feline companion lead us out. My binocs are waiting for me on the deck. I lean over railing, savoring the first sips of my hot coffee and taking in the view of the snow-dotted plain stretching out in front of me. Raising the binoculars to my eyes, I gaze out on the far pasture and spy a handsome black horse grazing as contentedly as I gaze at him.
