Me and my father decided to take a trip to the Bahamas. My doctor had given me one month left to live, give or take. Tessa was off to college and with mom gone also we basically had the freedom to do whatever we wanted. It was a very emotional experience for my dad I think. Knowing I was going to be parting in just a matter of time. But then again, he knew there was nothing he could do about it. I guess that's why we went on the trip, making the best of the situation. Cramming in exciting experiences. I wasn't too weak for our five day vacation either. That was pretty miraculous considering I had been in and out of ER for several preceding weeks. Really it was a blessing having quality time with my favourite person in the whole world. He was my best friend, my closest companion. We told each other everything. Especially during the trip. I revealed some of my darkest secrets to him. Things I've never told anyone before. It was great, having numerous bonding moments. I'll remember that trip for eternity, which for me isn't really a long time. Well maybe, I don't quite know. Maybe there is a life after death. Maybe I will cherish those memories. I suppose I won't know until it happens. I can't wait to find out. My father and I talked about that a lot in the Bahamas. My disease and the outcome was never something we liked to dwell upon before. But now that the curtains are finally closing, it seems like all we can talk about. I'm so empty inside when I don't talk about it. Mainly because I have all these unanswered questions. Everything feels so rushed, you know? Like I feel as though if I had, oh I don't know... Maybe one month more? Then maybe I could accomplish everything on my bucket list. I don't mean skydiving, and crocodile hunting. I've never had the capacity or the strength to condone in any sort of strenuous activity such as that. But I do have things I want to do. One thing I've always wanted to do was to see the Pixies live. In all honesty, I would cut my time and half and not even think about anything else on my agenda if I could make that happen. I've always dreamt of hearing Black Francis' soft, moving voice in real life. When I was a child, the day my mother departed, she gave my a Pixies band tee with the entire ensemble's names and autographs. Back then I had no clue who they were but somehow I guess my mom just knew that eventually, that would become the most sacred thing in my very possession. The shirt was probably about ten sizes too big for me when I got it but I now I rock it on the daily. I cut off the sleeves and the collar to make it into a nice cropped tank top. Somehow I managed to forget my luggage when we went to the Bahamas. Luckily I had that shirt to wear and it was light enough that I wasn't scorching hot the whole time we were there. Toward the end of the trip, my father mentioned to me some of the reasons my mother left. I guess he wanted to reassure me that it wasn't any thing to do with me. We never really talked about it before so it was a kind of spontaneous discussion. It was nice though, how he wanted me to know how much I was loved by both of them. He sort of retold me my entire childhood story. That was nice too. Not a lot happened outside of the hospital but the memories we did have were all I could ask for. That was my last memory of life on earth. Listening to the sweet and mellow voice of my own father. I fell asleep in his arms and never woke up again.
