The old, black car rolled up to the curb at my house in such an ominous way that I caught my breath when I viewed it's imposing silver grill. Should I take a risk? Should I get out of my neighborhood and escape to the wilderness with this man I barely knew?
I decided the only thing I could lose was really my life, and to be fair, I had known Jamie since I was a young girl. I know how much he loves the outdoors, and I know this adventure could be a wonderful way for me to stretch my mind and my soul.
I did not regret a moment of that weekend. I remember how eerie the stream felt that day when we put our kayak into the murky water. But after the gloom of the first hour, the sun appeared and we paddled into meadows where the most beautiful flowers were growing. We saw deep red roses; yellow sunflowers; purple daisies. The beauty that was inherent here seemed to mirror my growing connection to Jamie. His softness. His calm spirit. The way he stared into my eyes and clearly cared about me and cared about this experience, yet he had an ease that many lack.
