Five years to the day of the accident, I am reminded of all of mom's favorite things as I visit her on this frigid, snowy morning. Mom always remembered God's beauty in the world, and she never let us forget that. Taking the time to appreciate the little things in life was never a struggle for mom. Her love for flowers was like none I've ever witnessed again. She recognized the power of the ocean, the waves, and the hidden creatures of the sea. Now that she is in this white dusted cemetery, I am reminded of a cactus, representing her deep southwestern roots.

(Disclaimer: This story is completely fictional- my mother is alive and well!)
