about this story

The rain had finally stopped pouring from the sky, but tears had not yet stopped pouring from Mavis's tired eyes as she walked down the deserted road, pondering her predicament. She was worried. Oh yes, she was worried. The Decency Decor for Housing and Other Public Buildings had come knocking just yesterday - knocking on the tri-colored door over which she had labored for the better part of August.

"This door must be painted within the next 48 hours or it will be taken down by the DDHOPB," announced the talking black mustache standing aggressively in Mavis's doorway.

"But I..."

"With all due respect ma'am," the mustached man responded without any due respect, Mavis noticed, "it's not my problem."

Now, 24 hours later, Mavis still had not decided what to do. She arrived at her back yard, leaned against her tattered fence and thought. Do I succumb to the system? Give into THE MAN? Or do I walk the long, dark flight of steps toward justice and standing up for my right to a tri-colored door?
