Most people don't think about going on holiday after attending someone's funeral.Based on how close you were to the person you lost, you may have wanted to spend time alone and cry in your room, perhaps never wanting to go outside again.
I was different. After losing my sister, I decided to go away. To get away... From everything. From the familiarity... The memories... The smells... The echoes of our laughter in my mind.
This might have been a OK except, when I left, I didn't let a single soul know where I was going... Partly because I didn't know where I was going myself... All I knew, was that leaving was the only answer for me.
So, one night I packed my bag, made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and walked out the front door. I stood on our front lawn, where my sister and I used to have picnics, star gaze and make up stupid stories about princesses and towers and frogs and witches... I closed my eyes, wiped the tears and got into the taxi waiting by the curb.
