Just last Saturday, my family gave my husband's parents to cats. There house is an older farmhouse, and we decided that having two cats in the house might help with their growing mouse problem. We went to the Bannock Humane Society adoption day, and picked out a brother and a sister, Rueben and Sheila, and excitedly took them to their new home.
As soon as we entered the door, Reuben was off exploring his new surroundings, but Sheila was pretty shy. She went and hid under a chair, and it took Rueben's quiet coaxing to get her out. In the days since, as we've visited to see how they are settling in, Sheila, still likes to hide.
When I started with the Idaho Coaching network last year, I felt a lot like Sheila. I was new to the teaching profession, and in a effort to improve the way I taught writing, I found myself in a situation where I felt like I was way over my head. I really just wanted to hide. Luckily I stuck with it, and I feel like I have blossomed.
While I have sometimes felt like I have been dogged by a snake, presenting professional development has truly helped me grow. Today when I finished, I felt like I was in a beautiful meadow.
