about this story

It was a dark and stormy night. The electricity ebbed, creating shadows across the walls. Instead of waiting for the lights to go dark, the woman left. The road stretched before her, shadows flickering along the edges. Rain echoed on the roof of the car. Ahead the mountains towered as both a barrier and a beacon. Alone on the road, her mind filtered through the past year. She had left the city behind. Her career. Her friends. She shuttered the doors of her old life and hung a No Trespassing sign on the gate. The last sweet days of autumn before the murder seemed a lifetime ago. She drove. She remembered.
