Five Card Story: Past. Present. Future.

As she sits on her front porch with a homemade frozen mocha, she reflects on her past and ponders her future. She hears frogs in the background and laughs to herself because for some reason those tiny creatures have always scared her. As she laughs she also becomes sad remembering how her brother "saved her" from a frog. Sad because she misses him terribly and all of her childhood memories begin to come to mind. Many years on the swingset with her brother, competing to see who could swing higher. Who could jump off the swing and land on their feet? It was her, of course. So many memories that while initially are sad turn to wonderful memories of a time in her life where everything was okay and safe. A time where going to her great-grandmother's house and smelling all of her roses was so peaceful. Her great-grandmother's favorite flower was a rose and she had rose bushes everywhere. Coincidently, she and her great-grandmother shared a birthday and she also has a love for roses. She was amazed at how many memories came to life over one frozen beverage early in the morning. It left her thinking about how much has changed and what life is like today. It is definitely not as simple and innocent as her childhood. At times it is also lonely as many people from the past are no longer here. She looks out over the horizon and realizes that even though so much uncertainty, her future looks bright and the people she misses are in her heart and pulling for her to succeed. She will make them proud. And she will strive to be a part of the solution in all that is wrong in the world today.
