Factors that can influence an individuals self-concept are education, media, appearance, culture, abuse, relationships, gender, income and age. Education can influence an individual's self-concept by having supportive teaching staff who continues to encourage a student to keep up the good work. Example. Think about Micheal's appearance Think about Micheal's gender Think about Micheal's income Factors Influencing Self-Concept Culture, Ethnicity affects self-concept by influencing people's feelings of belonging to a particular culture or social group. However it can also lead to people being treated differently, perhaps in an unfair or discriminatory way, and thereby effects their sense of self-worth and self esteem.
