about this story
I only see the shadow,places and objects are always black. Even on the rare occasion I do see color, its muted barely there. I wish I was like Peter Pan, always lost his shadow chasing it; longing for it. I dream of the day where I can see like the rest. The blue of the sky, green of the trees, The browns and reds of a mountain. I want to watch the orange of a sunset on a drive home from work and trace the patterns of the stars in the sky. But that's only a dream, a vision, a glimmer of hope. I memorized the brick rhythm by my door, I see the shadow brighten when the light turns on. I find my way to the living room to sit in my big soft over used chair. I feel a hot stream move down my cheeks and the desperate hums jolt through my body. What I would give to see color, to see my reflection, to even see my mother and watch the laughter fall from her lips.
