about this story

Dear diary,

It got foggy quick, a lot quicker than we had expected. So foggy we could hardly see the person across from us. This was supposed to be a fun camping trip out in the woods, a long planned trip to celebrate each of us finally making it to college. But now, we were driving back to campus. Back to my same old sad apartment. We even picked out a nice little spot right next to a small swamp with tall grass and a lot of snails. It was nice being outdoors after being cooped up for so long, seeing all the beautiful wildlife. It was a long, quiet ride home.

My friends and I were all upset about the failed trip. Summer ends in a few days, this was supposed to be the fun we get before going back to studying and exams. As my friend pulls up to my house, I give them all a disappointed nod and step out. I stand outside my home, staring at it with my unused sleeping bag in my hand. It was stormy out this way too, a perfect way to match my gloomy mood.

Dear diary,

It had been a few days since we had to cancel our vacation midway through. School had started, and I was back to working at the cheese market by campus. I haven’t seen my friends much lately, we have completely different schedules at completely different times. I was hoping we could reschedule during a holiday break, but I haven’t seen any of them around and I had lost my phone the day school started. Hopefully soon I’ll be able to see them again and talk.

Dear diary,

Today was a great day! My friends stopped by while I was at work and suggested we reschedule for Christmas break. I was excited to hear from them, but even happier to know we’ll still have our camping trip we had planned for so long.
