about this story

I woke up to a sound blasting in my ears. I slowly opened my eyes and came to reality. I saw my phone sitting on my bedside table, with an alarm displayed on the screen. I quickly snoozed the alarm and read the time. 8:00. I groaned and slowly peeled out of bed. I quickly threw on some clothes, grabbed my keys, and walked out the door to head to my sister's house to pick her up for work. I put the key in the ignition and pulled out of the driveway. I turned on the radio and started on my usual path to my sister's house. As I was driving, I noticed there were no cars on the road. Strange. Usually there’s a decent amount of traffic at this time on a Monday morning. Come to think of it, I didn’t see any of my neighbors outside today. It’s probably nothing. I pulled up to my sister's house and called her to let her know I was there. No answer. I rolled my eyes and went up to her door and knocked numerous times. Still no answer. I lifted up the door mat for her spare keys and unlocked the door. I searched all around the house for her but she was nowhere to be found. I frantically called my parents to see if they knew where she was. Also no answer. I called almost everyone in my contacts and not a single person picked up. There were no cars on the road, no human activity outside, my sister was gone, and no one was picking up my calls. I didn’t understand what was happening. I grabbed my keys and began driving to the most populated place I could think of. The beach. I sped down the roads and reached my destination in under 5 minutes. As I suspected, there was no one in sight. I took off my shoes and started walking along the shore. Worried thoughts flooded through my mind. Where was everyone? After some time, I laid down in the sand and the last thing I saw before shutting my eyes was a double rainbow painted across the sky.
