about this story

A child once was
At peace and carefree.
Born by a rainbow
And tall evergreens.

She walks through the meadows
And high grazing lanes,
Singing songs to herself
Of her future. She plans:

“An old mansion from generations ago
With a pinkish roof
And big windows.

It sits upon acres of lime-green land,
With clear fields
So I can garden.”

She pauses and blinks
And ties up her hair
Flies up her arms
And soars through the air

“I will be a princess, lovely I’m sure
Who wears pretty dresses
That dance across floors.

In the spring, I’ll wear gloves
And ribbons and bows.
And my voice will always sing, wherever I go”

Sure enough, the years went by.

Arrived, it has come.
The child has grown,
Awakened by life
Yet dragged down by scorn.

Song has grown quiet.
Light has diminished.
Soon nears the end
Of a life left unfinished.

Quiet and numb
Mind clouded by smoke,
She set out to find
What the evergreens evoke.

Alone as she was,
She journeyed again
Hoping to dream
Like she did back then.

Among the river, the rainbow,
And the tall evergreens,
She breathed in her past
Where she once was carefree.

“Life hasn’t been as bliss as I visioned.
The princess, the mansion - all a collision.
I tried my best, but life got in the way.
Maybe in the next one.
Somehow.
Someday.”
