about this story

It was a chilly spring morning with new life in bloom. As I look out the window, I'm surprised that once-wilted flowers are now vibrant and full of life. I was motivated to start my day. I gathered my belongings, put my coat on, and walked out the door. A recent move to New York, in search of new beginnings, I was admiring the construction of the row houses and brownstones. I always wondered why the patterns of the bricks were so different yet built in the same era. Though different, they still stand strong together. The sounds of children's laughter jolted me out of my deep thoughts. To my surprise, a community festival, in the middle of my neighborhood park. Amidst the families, food trucks, and vendors I noticed a ride that I haven't seen since I was a child. A ride so scary that even as an adult, I have to admit still scares the shit out of me. As I muster the strength to abolish my fears and ride, I wonder about myself in this place. As I walk towards the ride, with my head hanging down, I notice a tiny beetle slowly paving its path through blades of grass. I imagine how it feels to be so small in such a big world. I realize that everything that has life must have fears of their own and they must navigate them daily. This thought brings me introspective on how of a small piece I am to the big picture. This makes me question my "why". I find myself coming to you today, pastor, to let you know about my feelings in hopes that being in the house of the Lord will give me guidance.
